The Bite Magazine - Autumn/Winter 2021 - Issue 30

Solid Homme bitemen S outh Korean designer Woo Young Mi, founder and CEO of two internationally acclaimed men’s ready- to-wear labels, shared her gifts with the world and premiered Solid Homme for the first time during Milan’s Fashion Week. From first sight, it breathed contemporary influences and offered a fresh take on the timeless concept of bringing back the tradition and focusing on the aspects of the real needs of contemporary men. The designer, who is also the founder and creative direc- tor of menswear label Wooyoungmi, delivered a collection centred on the re-editions of signature styles she’s developed during her 30-year career in fashion, the ‘NEW Old’. The collection presented itself as a modern conception of the classics imagined for today’s urban living. The collection’s silhouettes were typified by a mix of archi- tectural taste and minimalism that took the form of sharp tailoring and bold details. Outerwear, the collection’s main focus, ranged from rain and windproof dusters through multi-pocket trench coats to duffle coats and cabin jackets with asymmetric and oversized pieces. The tech materials spanned from the leather she used for the ‘80s bomber jack- ets to the felt of streamlined jackets and the soft corduroy of a puffer jacket mixed with slouchy pants and a bucket hat, the latter bringing to mind a Run DMC video clip from the ’90s. Layered underneath and accommodating the requirements of a lifestyle spent constantly moving between indoor and outdoor, they were cosy, uniform-style looks consisting of jersey pants with two-tone, woollen patch pockets. Else- where, the ‘New Solid’ sweater vests in jacquard mohair were matched with retro-style and corduroy trousers. With two or three buttons, the single-breasted suits were given a more relaxed fit through the dropped shoulders and long triggers. http://solidhomme.com Click here to watch Solid Homme Catwalk Show
