H ouse of Gucci is one of the biggest block- buster films of the year, starring talented young actors and veteran Oscar winners. Lady Gaga stars as Patrizia Reggiani, Adam Driver as Maurizio Gucci, Jared Leto as Paolo Gucci, Al Pacino as Aldo Gucci, Salma Hayek as Pina Auriemma and Jeremy Irons as Rodolfo Gucci. House of Gucci is a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pic- tures film, directed by Ridley Scott and an adaption of Sara Gay Forden’s book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed which screenwriters Becky Johnston and Roberto Bentivegna used as inspiration for the movie. In 1972, Patrizia Reggiani, an outsider from humble beginnings, married Maurizio Gucci, the grandson of Gucci founder Guccio Gucci. At first glimpse, all seemed beautiful and innocent; she had everything a woman could dream of, a real-life Cinderella story. However, she fought hard to be recognised and accepted, becoming Milan’s most tabloid famous woman for her extravagant lifestyle – sailing between private Caribbean islands on her 200-foot yacht, the Creole, or decamping in her penthouse at Manhattan’s Olympic Tower whenever the mood struck. Perhaps her most famous diktat is, “It’s better to cry in a Rolls-Royce than being happy on a bicycle.” However, her unbridled ambition begins to unravel the family legacy. It triggers a reckless spiral of betrayal, decadence, revenge - and ultimately murder, leaving Patrizia with a 26-year prison sen- tence for her role in the death. The director did not have mercy on us and kept releasing teasers with more and more footage of what we could expect from the movie. What we can see from the trailers so far is that Lady Gaga’s transformation might be another Oscar-winning performance or a prestigious Academy Award nomi- nation at least.
