The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2021 - Issue 29
bitefashion These interesting phrases are designed and made with love and great care and bring back small stories inspired by the ‘90s decade and rebel spirit. It also connects the theme of escapism that retreats us from the complexities of modern life and reconnects us with our authentic selves. With a strong focus on the inspirational ‘90s tech boom, the palette is based on dark and light blues, with solid pastel tones of red and pink against a neu- tral hue of black and white colour-blocks that were authentic from that era. The brand explained that denim is such a prominent fabric in the collection because they feel it represents part of their identity and envisioned lifestyle. This is coupled with a sustainable element where every item is created locally and sourced from local European craftsmanship. “Our brand values are based on high quality, creativity, transparency, pas- sion and local production, due to the importance of ethically and sustaina- bly producing garments and accessories.” As a sustainable brand, Glim Stu- dios do not use artificial materials, and their collection and packaging are plastic-free. Around 90% of their range, each season is made up of 100% natural fabrics. “We tend to recycle from stock fabric stores around Spain to give the fabric a second chance and support local suppliers and businesses.” Why not choose any of the patches from the Gilli range? Whether it’s the ‘source of caffeine in the ‘90s’ with the red can, the ‘hotter than hell’ patch with a fire icon, or ‘fashion comes first’ showing a pair of high-heeled shoes on a catwalk; these fun phrases would look good on a denim jacket. I like the ‘OMG’ patch, which shows the word in black with rays of yellow, purple and blue emphasising it and the once-popular 3D cinema glasses with its blue and red lenses. Another great one is the ‘cotton candy ice cream’ pin, followed by the par- tially eaten ‘cosmic doughnut’ pin and the ‘dog’s fair balloon’ pin that may bring back memories of balloons being turned into animal shapes at chil- dren’s birthday parties. Interesting is the ‘piñata’ pin which is usually made from paper-mâché, pottery or cloth. This common tradition from Mexico is decorated, filled with candy and then broken as part of a celebration. So take yourself back to the ‘90s and relive the candy floss, gumboil dispens- ers, sodas, cassette tapes and all that was good in that era. https://glimstudios.com
