The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2021 - Issue 29

bitecatwalk P resented in front of a socially distanced audience in the courtyard of the late-baroque period Rotonda della Besana in Milan, Salvatore Ferragamo’s SS21 collec- tion felt surprisingly light and bright. One would never guess that a global plague was raging outside by the 30ish-looks that walked the long gravel lined runway after a nine-minute fashion film was played. Creative Director Paul Andrew spent his time during the lockdown, like many of us, glued to the TV, phone or tablet, mindlessly watching hours of ‘stuff’. “This spring, stuck at home, I rewatched classic Hitchcock films,” he stated. “In the past, watching those movies has always felt like inhabiting a surreal and strange world. But watching them during lockdown was different: they felt like ‘real life’ because ‘real life’ itself had suddenly become so strange, surreal and oddly beautiful.” Fortunately for Andrew, he found out that film director Luca Guadagnino had the same love of Hitchcock movies. The two collaborated on the short film shot in Technicolour in and around the highly unusual and ghostly empty, quiet streets of Milan. The collection highly referenced the obsession of Hitchcock’s leading characters and their always pristine style. Featuring simplistic, uncomplicated looks overall, the greatness of this line-up came from the vibrant and saturated colour scheme and intricate details. Each look appeared to be comfort-driven, to be worn easily in the coming new ‘normal’. The leather handbags ranged in shape, style and structure, adding another layer to where and how these looks could be adapted; from the easy-going to the structured and rigid, the future of how you’ll dress is up to you. www.ferragamo.com
