The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2021 - Issue 29
bitecatwalk ravo! Bravo Moschino! Bravo! You’ve once again proven you will stop at nothing to produce one of themost highly anticipated and forward-looking fashion events of the season! Moschino offered up a sparkle of hope and remembrance with an SS21 show- case that was like none I’d ever seen before. Jeremy Scott is a brilliant magician of creating a fantastic fashion event in his own right, and this time, he took things to a whole new level of wonderment. Presenting the 40-look collection via a puppet show, complete with miniature ver- sions of everything from the garments themselves to the models and the audience - it was all extraordinary! The countless hours of work it must have taken to not only make the doll-sized clothes and puppets but the stage, the set, the lighting, filming; it was like a real runway show but interpreted in a whole new direction. It almost felt like Barbie doing the most impossibly posh doll runway show imaginable. Before the pandemic took hold, Scott had decided this spring’s collec- tion would praise the glory and splendour inviability of haute couture. Scott told Vogue.com’s Anders Christian Madsen, “I was thinking about how it is such a human, emotional, tactile thing: time, dedica- tion, and the connection to design history.” The puppet show idea came about after he realised that this year’s show schedule and plans would be cancelled, and he began to research on the Théâtre de la Mode. This group of Parisian individuals created miniature versions of their collections to show clients and buyers when supplies and mate- rials were scarce after World War II. He also contacted Muppets cre- ator JimHenson’s Creature Shop to help with the actual production of the 30-inch marionettes. Every look was first made life-sized, then scaled proportionately to fit the puppets measurements perfectly. The haute couture aspect of each look was precisely crafted, tailored and executed. Each look featured intricate detailing and styling. It all read rich, opulent, deli- ciously decadent, and so needed in a world that’s currently living in sweat pants and hoodies. God bless you, Jeremy Scott, for bringing us back from the brink! www.moschino.com/gb_en FASHION WEEK MILAN Spring/Summer 2021
