He wanted to commemorate the oc- casion with a collection reflecting its heritage in the sense of “The search for beauty and its ever-changing balance.” Totally appropriate as the brand’s womenswear is known for its sensual designs and styling. The de- signer’s latest SS21 ready-to-wear col- lection was a capsulation of all things demure, feminine, sexy and alluring. It also took note of the current COV- ID-state of things and tried to express how one looks to the past, learns from it and moves on to not make the same errors again, or on a lighter note, im- prove upon past works moving forward into a brighter version for tomorrow. “Fashion does not operate in a sus- pended space; it records time, inter- prets it, anticipates it through the per- sonal visions of those who create it. The search for a new balance looking forward pervades the Ermanno Scervi- no collection. With a touch of rebellion, in its own way, it is made of kindness, harmony in contrasts, attention to de- tail and the most exquisite manual skills.”  That said, this collection oozes jux- tapositions of past and present to be worn in the future without hesitation, regret or looking back. Delicate and gossamer layers of lace mixed and mingled with carved leather pieces, denim and mattes, as well as jute fab- ric, cotton and chiffons. The colour palette is mainly white with punches of stern jet black, neutrals and soft pastels, and animal print sprinkling to keep things interesting. One look, in particular, stood out to me, and that was one of the finale ensembles, which was a play on the tuxedo worn as a short-short suit set. Again, nothing in this collection was entirely new or revolutionary; still, the tweak of taking past ideas and mak- ing them fresh, in this case, with a lacy button-up white blouse and über short-shorts, worked with ankle wrap sandals and personified the powerful, sexy female. https://www.ermannoscervino.com/gb/
