D esigner IB Oyerinde describes herself as born free and fierce, raised in the USA with Africa as her mama. “I have fashion in my blood and a sparkle in my eye. These pieces are my tribe, each with its own unique spirit and personality. With them, I am dressed for adventure. From sunrise to sunset, I rise and conquer. I sail the ocean, strut the sidewalk and dance under the stars. Every street is my catwalk, and the whole world is my tribe.” This direct and engaging poetic introduction makes you intrigued to learn more about this amazing and confident woman. She started designing and sewing when she was a child. “My mother had these books where you could make patterns, and from there, I would make clothes for my Barbies. At a young age, crea- tivity lit up my spirit. Unfortunately, I didn’t pursue it at the time. I started to model and did that for many years. This gave me insight into another side of the fashion world.” IB, who studied Marketing at New York University, has the natural pose of a model who illuminates the elegant playsuits and jumpsuits she designs. She has always loved jumpsuits and the ease of them. “I don’t like to put too much time into getting ready or thinking too hard about what to wear,” she explained. “What I love about jumpsuits is that I can have a complete look without having to consume too much brain energy. I can be ready quickly but not skimp on my fabulousness.” She is indeed fabulous. There is a certain bounce of energy within her that makes you eager to hear more of her story. “What I noticed, however, was that many brands only offered one or two jumpsuits a season.
