Anther + Moss Cristina Lloyd receives greenery tips from Anther + Moss and learns about their plant pots’ drainage system that help your vegetation thrive with vitality and life. biteplants L ast year, gardening became the second most popular lockdown activity that people engaged in after watching TV. With different varieties of this outdoor chore, including beautifying plants and flowers, and growing fruit and vegetable from seeds, it was perhaps a therapeutic pastime for many. Anther + Moss founder Timothy Sherratt says the best time to repot a plant is in the spring. “This gives plenty of time for your plants to get their roots established before be- ginning to rest in the colder months.” Anther + Moss was founded in 2020 to create plant pots that look good and fulfil a functional role. Tim- othy also wanted to match the beauty of his vivacious houseplants with a brilliant pot that helped plants thrive. After all, according to the founder, plant pots have two roles: the first to give a plant a home in which it can bloom, and the second, to provide an understat- ed beauty that lets the plant take the limelight. A beautiful, functional plant pot should always have a drainage hole and matching saucer. “We believe that buying a nice plant pot and having to drill a hole in it - or worse, putting a plastic pot inside - is not good enough,” emphasised the brand. The lack of drainage can lead to a host of plant problems, including keeping house plants alive. “It’s for this reason that every An- ther + Moss plant pot has a drainage hole and comes with a matching saucer” to ensure your plant is always in a good home. All Anther + Moss pots and saucers are made from concrete because they’re robust, durable and resilient. The charcoal, ash and brick pots from the coloured range are all lined and waterproof. “This means their colour will stay consistent over time.” The bare porous pots have no waterproof sealant as it absorbs water out of the soil. The brand suggests letting it evaporate, making it great for plants that like to dry out between waterings. Once the porous pots are absorbed by water and then evaporated, they will leave their mark with time. “A gorgeous patina will begin to develop, giving your pot a natural, aged look that’s always unique.” The patina's speed depends on how much you water your plant and is also impacted by humidity, the soil/compost, water hardness, how much sun hits the pot, and various oth- er factors. Anther + Moss suggests immersing the pot in a sink of water for an hour or two if you wish to dial it back a notch. Green Plant Fingers
