D reamWorks Animation’s family adventure Spirit Untamed follows the studio’s popular CGI-animated Emmy-winning series Spirit Riding Free, which debuted on Netflix in 2017. It’s loosely based on the 2002 Oscar-nominated 2D animated feature Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. Spirit Untamed, directed by Elaine Bogan and co-di- rected by Ennio Torresan continues the story of the Netflix show with the voice cast including Isabela Merced (Fortuna ‘Lucky’ Prescott), Jake Gyllenhaal (Jim Prescott) and Julianne Moore (Aunt Cora). Spirit Untamed is a beautiful animation with diverse characters and an excellent voice cast that genuinely leaves you inspired and wanting to become a wild soul yourself. From the trailer, you can spot stunning back- grounds, gorgeous vistas, and rolling hills. Like her late mother, Lucky isn’t a fan of rules and restrictions, which causes her Aunt Cora no small amount of worry. The young girl has grown up in an east coast city under her aunt’s watchful eye, but when she pushes her luck with one too many risky escapades, Cora picks up the stakes and sends her back to her father, Jim, in Miradero, Puerto Rico. Lucky is decidedly unimpressed with the sleepy little town. However, she has a change of heart when she meets Spirit, a wild Mustang who shares her independ- ent streak. She also befriends two local horse riders, Abigail Stone (Mckenna Grace) and Pru Granger (Marsai Martin). Pru’s father, the stable owner Al Granger (Andre Braugher), is best friends with Lucky’s father. A heartless horse wrangler (Walton Goggins) and his team plan to capture Spirit and his herd and auction them off to a life of captivity and hard labour. Lucky enlists her new friends and bravely embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to rescue the horse who has given her freedom and a sense of purpose.
