bitecatwalk T he Mulleavy sisters’ creative brilliance was not to be defeated by the raging world around them. Complete with a global plague and raging fires, these two sisters maintained their famous skill set of creating whimsical and ever-so-girly pieces that ini- tially made them a firm fixture in the fashion industry now for over 15 years. Falling back on how they began their brand in 2005, the sisters stayed at home and watched movies while they continued to sew and design gorgeous and coquettish frocks out of floral prints, lace and fancy trimmings. They were able to sustain their aesthetic of beautifully magical looks that may seem a bit couture to the average person, but are in fact, very wearable art pieces. Every piece in this SS21 collection may not seem appro- priate or sensible to wear given the current overwhelming feeling of doom and gloom consuming our lives, but that’s the point! Despite the devastation, the Mulleavys still pro- duced a dream-worthy collection you can lust for and look ahead to a time when wearing such gorgeous dresses and accessories will once again be understood and ordinary. Rodarte has given its followers something to hope for - a fairytale ending to a nightmare. The collection featured silk floral dresses that nod to their ‘40s inspired pieces from previous collections, paired with church gloves and bobby socks.The sisters also introduced fun and funky takes on tracksuits, sweatshirts, trousers, pyjama suit sets and pleated tea-length skirts.
