bitebeauty your skin and hair type. Apart from being one of the best waxing therapists in town, she also trains other women who want to learn the ins and outs of the profession. She is not only passionate about beauty and the art of waxing but teaching as well; her training academy is now available online. She also offers mentoring programs with six months of business support upon graduating. When it comes to waxing, the beautician explained to me the importance of correct preparation and understanding the clients’ skin. “Equally important is educating the customers so they can come fully equipped and prepared for the procedure,” says Andreea. Ideally, your hair should be left to grow for three weeks before the appointment to minimise the discomfort, and it is essential not to moisturise on the day of the treatment. The therapist recommended exfoliating three times a week, especially before waxing treatment and if possible, to take a hot shower or bath as this will help to open the pores for easy hair removal. And last but not least is to relax during the waxing service because tense muscles make the area more sensitive. The other detrimental aspect is to make sure that the wax is the right temperature providing the smoothest experience for the client. The therapist always encourages her clients to let her know how they feel so that she could always adjust the temperature and give extra support if needed.“Talking always helps when it comes to distracting the client from experiencing pain while pulling the hair,” says the beautician.“It takes the client’s mind of it, and before realising your procedure is finished.” And with a hand on my heart, I can tell you that Andreea is not lying when she says this because that is precisely how I felt. She also explained the importance of aftercare and advised me to avoid all heat treatments including sunbathing, sunbeds, steam baths and saunas; and swimming in public pools as chlorine may irritate the area that was waxed. It is also important not to apply scented soap, body lotion, talcum powder or deodorant to the treated areas and use only lukewarm water for a bath or shower after the procedure. For those who are waxing the face, strictly do not apply make- up to any treated area and try to avoid touching the skin. You can start to exfoliate and moisturise your skin 48 hours after you had the treatment done to prevent ingrowing hairs. “If needed,” Andreea says, “use antiseptic cream on facial areas until the redness subsides.” If you have issues with ingrown hairs, Andreea advised using a special serum. The therapist also emphasised for it to work, you must apply it regularly, otherwise “it will be another unused product on a beauty shelf at home.” For those ladies who want to get an intimate waxing done during ‘that time of the month’ Andreea says is perfectly fine.“However, you may be a little more sensitive, and waxing could be more painful.” On the other hand, she suggests “taking a Nurofen tablet an hour before the procedure, as it will ease the pain.” Last but not least, we discussed the daily routines and how Andreea balances her work and personal life. The waxing expert says that she starts her day with a cup of coffee and music before she can fully open her eyes. Then, she does her make-up and is ready to tackle the day. She said what has kept her going all these years is the persistence and setting her daily targets.“As long as you get at least two things done off the list, it will keep your business improving.” But when it comes to her personal life, she enjoys it more relaxed and gives herself time to recharge and educate herself on the topics she is interested in, such as learning more about business. Andrea also shares some beauty tips of her own,“I never go to sleep without removing my make- up and apply a face cream before going to bed.” She further added that “day cream is still a cream in case you do not have a night cream to hand.” I will be honest, the first thought that came in my mind when I think of waxing is - pain. I always feel a bit intimidated by the idea of it no matter how many times I have gone to get one done. Do not get me wrong; I doubt that a pain-free waxing exists, at least not for now, and I find it difficult to trust anyone who claims there is another way. Even Andreea does not promise a pain-free experience; however, she makes the whole process rather enjoyable, and it yields longer-lasting results than a razor could ever provide. I can bravely say that I had so much fun and learned so much about the aftercare while getting my waxing done. And I am a big believer that the relationship with a beauty therapist you can have, is like love at first sight when you find one you never want to let go. www.perfectwaxing.uk
