bitefilms op un I t has been over thirty years since we saw Tom Cruise as Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell in the 1986 action drama film Top Gun . The original film directed by Tony Scott followed the story of Mitchell, a young naval aviator aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. He, along with his Radar Intercept Officer, Nick ‘Goose’ Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards), is given a chance to train at the US Navy’s FighterWeapons School at Naval Air Station Miramar in San Diego, California. In Top Gun: Maverick, directed by Joseph Kosinski, Mitchell returns to train recruits at the naval school. Described as one of the finest pilots the program has ever produced, the trainees are in for a treat. Val Kilmer also returns to reprise his role as Admiral Tom ‘Iceman’ Kazansky. Mad Men’s Jon Hamm plays Vice Admiral Cyclone, with Ed Harris as a rear admiral who is Maver- ick’s superior, Charles Parnell as Rear Admiral Warlock and Jennifer Connelly as Penny Benjamin, Maverick’s love interior. The sequel was initially scheduled to be released in July 2019 but was postponed to allow the production to work out all the complex flight sequences. It was further delayed due to the pandemic and scheduling conflicts. Top Gun: Maverick is now scheduled to be released in 2021.
