bitefilms T he beloved fictionist Belgian detective Hercule Poirot from the Agatha Christie novels is called into another murder mystery case in Death on the Nile, following a similar endeavour in the 2017 film Murder on the Orient Express. Entrusted with the task of identifying the murderer after one of the passengers is found dead aboard the S.S. Karnak, Poirot played by Kenneth Branagh who also directs the film, must question them all one by one to discover who is responsible. Before revealing his identity, he talks about the power of seduc- tion and jealously. Then tells the suspects, “I have investigated many crimes, but this has altered the shape of my soul. I am detective Hercule Poirot, and I will deliver your killer.” Could it be Jacqueline de Bellefort (Emma Mackey) who seductively danced the night away with Simon Doyle (Armie Hammer) before he became enchanted with Linnet Ridgeway-Doyle (Gal Gadot) and left his former dance partner spinning? Or do the other passengers: Bouc (Tom Bateman) and his mother, Euphemia Bouc (Annette Bening), Mrs Bowers (Dawn French), Marie Van Schuyler (Jennifer Saunders) or Rosalie Otterbourne (Letitia Wright) have a secret they wish to keep buried? Not much else is revealed in the trailer as to each person’s motive, but the truth never stays hidden for long, especially when detective Hercule Poirot is around.
