The Bite Magazine - Autmn/Winter 2020 - Issue 28

T he Blonds is not just a brand dedicated to luxury, but it has a rebellious and entertaining perception of how fashion shows should be presented. Phillipe and David Blond have been directing the creativity in their AW20 Col- lection. Destined to be the campest show on the New York FashionWeek scene, they did not fail to deliver. This year they decided to up the tempo of their show as the screens opened with a large projected crucifix to reveal the Blonds’ logo. Before you knew it: lights, camera and catwalk action. With a flash of light, the model emerged dressed in all-gold; it could only be described as a bodysuit to beat all bodysuits, as she worked the runway. Sure, their runway shows are used to having a lot of attitudes and very itsy bitsy clothes, but this season The Blonds took inspiration from religion with renaissance style embellishments with crucifixes as accessories and over-the-top gilded head- pieces. The clothes were intriguing in both their delivery and construction and were an impressive display. Maybe one of the most extravagant shows to be included in this year’s NYFW fashion parades. This show was full of drama, with the models taking their selfies on the catwalk, in reference to social media that has become part of our day-to-day life and a significant feature in media and famous reality stars today. We also loved the accessories of big pearl and crucifix earrings that looked heavy to be hanging on any model’s ears. To be fair we thought since they had Paris Hilton on their catwalk last year, perhaps Nicki Minaj could have made an entrance this year because the collection was a representation of Nicki’s music concerts. And as for the bling, there was plenty of it to last a girl’s lifetime! On the Blonds’ red carpet was one of our favourite artist, Jen- nifer Lopez, whom we think was not disappointed with what was on display at this show. http://theblonds.nyc THE BLONDS
