The Bite Magazine - Autmn/Winter 2020 - Issue 28
C hocheng’s design signature is well known for British tailoring. It is a womenswear designer label launched by Cho Cho Cheng who studied fashion and costume design at the Parsons School of Design in NewYork and later took an apprenticeship in the heart of British tailoring in Savile Row.Working at this level made him develop close attention to detail and only uses materials that are 100% natural and cruelty-free. Jackets and coats are half lined in the manner of traditional sports jackets allowing customers to see all the padding, stiffening, basting, binding and the interfacing that are done by hand. However, the woven garments are manufactured in London and the knitwear and accessories made in Italy. The colour palette of the women suits ranged from completely black, to pink with black sleeves and collar and green with purple sleeves and collar. This truly reflected British tailoring, which complements his designs and helps show his inspirations. Silhouettes and trompe l’oeil jackets were at the forefront of the natural fabrics used this season. Cho’s collections feature innovative techniques in creating the form, and this was evident in the use of hand-ruched tulle, giving the effect of a fur or shearling collar. Also featured were Chocheng’s signature cotton boucle jackets, cotton crepe shirts and hand-sewn petals accessories. It was an outstanding show for a designer that embraces the best aspects of British tailoring. www.chocheng.com bitecatwalk CHOCHENG
