Beauty Editor Giovanna Zac has come across a new, modern way of looking at sunbathing and sun protection with the launch of Institut Esthederm Sun Care. INSTITUT ESTHEDERM bite beauty I nstitut Esthederm has revolutionised the way we think and use sun care thanks to their new concept that strengthens the skin, increases its natural defences and combines the latest technologies for inter- nal protection. During their virtual launch, Institut Esthederm UK brand manager Marie-Helene Raud, with Dr Sophie Shotter, explained that tanning in moderation is good for the skin, but it is important to adapt our skin to the sun and understand how this reacts to the sun. We tan by producing melanin, a protein that allows natural exterior protection but this is not enough. The skin needs to also be pro- tected from the inside because sun spectrum such as infrared, visible light, and UV/UVV rays cause damage to the skin on a deeper level, and SPFs (Sun Protect Factors) can only indicate the strength of the sun before burning and do not protect the skin from the inside. Institut Esthederm understands this concept, hence why there is no SPF in their packages, and have created a special formula to cover every aspect of protection. Their technolo- gy combines Mineral Screen Reflection to reflect back the radiation caused by the sun rays; Adaptasun Technologie to stimulate the production of melanin with a more even and thicker tan; and Cellular Protection Patent which helps to protect the cells from oxidation with anti-inflammation and DNA protection, thus preventing sunburns and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and dark spots. All of which are present in their sun care collections. The most interesting part of this sun care collection is that, for Institut Esthederm, skin protection starts well before tanning. The idea is to prepare the skin to develop enough melanin to allow maximum natural protec- tion. Here are some of the products by the French brand that is bringing evolution to sun tanning. SPRAY BRONZ IMPULSE FACE & BODY SPRAY This is like developing melanin that prepares the skin for sun exposure while minimising the damages caused by sun spectrum and free radicals of the skin. It works by spraying the face and body for at least 7 to 10 days before sun exposure to enhance the tanning process. This helps to boost the skin’s antioxidant properties, which will then create a quick and deeper tan. The mist texture is light and very fresh and is suitable for all skin types. For best results, spray on the face and body every day for two weeks before sun exposure. Once you have started sunbathing, spray in the evenings and at least 20 minutes before going back into the sun to allow the skin to adapt to the strength of the rays. The Spray Bronz Impulse does not contain sun filters; therefore, it needs a sun protector on top. Institut Esthederm also offers the best choice and compatibility in sunscreens. BRONZ REPAIR SUNKISSED – Orange Line The Orange Line is fully dedicated to people that can tan easily and have fewer issues with their skin but are still looking for a firming and anti-wrinkle sun care product. It contains all the technologies to protect the skin while stimulating collagen and elastin and can be used every day as a moisturiser for the face, neck, and décolleté. Its formula is enriched with bronzing pigments and is great to use instead of foundation. The texture is soft and velvety, non-greasy or heavy on the skin. Its golden natural tan colour blends well and leaves a lovely long-lasting sunkissed tone. As the skin absorbs it well, I love to wear my blusher and highlighters on top.
