The Bite Magazine - Spring/Summer 2020 - Issue 27
bite perfume There are many more intriguing fragrances; too numerous to mention here, but do investigate further. The candles equally have exotic names like Rama Won’t You Please Come Home, a play on Billie Holiday’s ‘Baby Won’t You Please Come Home’; Big Sur After Rain; Concrete After Lightning; Tomb of the Eagles; and ’85 Diesel. DS & Durga invite you to welcome Rama into your home with North Indian forest tree flowers, tuberose, gardenia, and bastard teak (also known as flame-of- the-forest and free fire). Big Sur After Rain represents rainwater in eucalyptus group off Highway 1 with young green shoots, long spears, and russet underbrush while Concrete After Lightning describes electric crackle, downpour, panic grass, and sizzling asphalt steam. Tomb of the Eagles is found in the far north where Orkney eagles carry stone age souls beyond the jagged cliffs, clover, sea pinks, sweet cicely, and the sonorous sea. ’85 Diesel describes a moment on saffron tanned leather seats, in clothes that look like rugs, singing “we must never break the chain’. To make your DS & Durga experience even more memora- ble and exciting, the brand presents musical influences such as Hiko Men’s album Some Found A Cave. The six aromatic scents of Soft Rolling Hills/Meadows, Desert, High Mountain Air, Clouds, Frontier Town, and Steppe/Swamp are designed to help one enter the landscapes of the Hiko world. You can also purchase the 12-inch album described as the pseu- do-ethnographic musical studies by DS & Durga’s perfumer and his lifelong cohort DA Mintzer, which incidentally is the band David and Daniel formed. The Patchouli Is Misunderstood, Oud Me, and I Love Vetyver t-shirts are an additional joy to the DS & Durga collection. Patchouli Is Misunderstood, otherwise known as Love It or Hate It, focuses on the earthy base note which is the secret in- gredient to many of our favourite perfumes. Oud is searched for in the wilds of hidden jungles with “facets of deep wood, flowers, funk, and skunk.” Named the James Dean of base notes, the French spelling of vetyver (vetiver in English) is cool and dry, with rooty, nutty grass tones. The DS & Durga store is located on 255 Mulberry Street in New York City, USA, and is opened Sunday to Tuesday from 11 am to 7 pm and Thursday to Saturday from 11 am to 8 pm. All of their products can be purchased online as well. https://dsanddurga.com Images courtesy of Profile Public Relations
