bite perfume Y ou could say it all started with a candle! The unique and handmade candles so lovingly created by the owner of Flower & Spice London, Freddy, who used his experience to assemble unique blends that conjure memories of events and experiences. After six years of research and development, he launched the brand to supply candle connoisseurs with scented candles made from natural waxes which help consumers to relive those vivid senses and tranquil moments. As a child, Freddy was obsessed with the sense of smell, the memories it can create, and the memories it can draw you back to. “We all have memories of certain smells from our childhood that will instantly transport us back to times when life was simpler, like grandma’s fresh baking.” Having spent much of his childhood with his grandparents, Freddy inherited his good nose for scents from his grandmother who loved flowers and nature and introduced him to the world of smell. “We used to go around the garden smelling the flow- ers and I would take it all in and be amazed by the feelings it gave me,” he recalled. “We would even smell fruits and she taught me how the smell would change as they became ripened and were ready to harvest.” Labelling himself as a doctor of scents, studying biology and chemistry helped him under- stand how the key ingredients interact. He has also seen the danger of big industries pumping products full of chemicals that are not good for the environ- ment. It was from working at many well-known brands for ten years who manufactured goods that contain cer- tain levels of chemicals and substances that, looking back, he was disappointed with. “I found this was the major drive for me to design my own products using Mother Nature, with a focus on organic natu- ral components.” He was determined to go in a dif- ferent direction and prove that it can be done with love and care for the world we live in, whilst design- ing a simple and recognisable brand. To many people, beauty is an individual thing. The common consensus “what some people see as beau- tiful, others may not” is very much true. In his view and experience, Freddy sees beauty as “ageing with style, being true to yourself, and a reflection of sim- plicity and true elegance. We all grow old, get wrin- kles, and change over the years. I just wish every- one would embrace that instead of trying to stop it. They’d all be a lot happier.” There is no doubt that the environment is the found- er’s passion. We are indeed living in a world that is rapidly deteriorating and as Freddy suggests, “We need to live much cleaner and natural lives.” When creating his magical scents and exploring the won- ders that nature provides, the founder looks for the finest natural organic ingredients. His packages are made from recyclable materials and even the ink used in his printing and the paper used on the label- ling has to be sustainable. As he revealed each product he creates is a reflection of himself which he personally uses himself as well Images courtesy of Flower and Spice
