bite catwalk F or this season of Madrid Fashion Week, we wel- comed the landing of Hannibal Laguna’s birds of paradise. The elevated floral textile print was a cen- tral theme for Laguna as he eased us into autumn with his sophisticated range of dresses which embodied the nature of birds and their mating rituals, filling the audience with excitement, who awaited his exotic evening gowns. The designer painted us a picture of his dresses promenad- ing through the gardens at dusk, their mesmerising prints and feather textures capturing and holding our gaze instan- taneously. Similarly, to how ivy grows up the walls of build- ings, his floral embroidery grew effortlessly up the chest of his dresses. Incredibly elongating cuts from Laguna this AW19 with high slit dresses and even higher-waisted trou- sers worked perfectly against the female form, thus, effort- lessly complimenting the natural perfections of the body. The designs took on nature’s forms with slight inspirations from bullfighters’ jackets, creating wings with volumes of fabric at the shoulders. One could compare Laguna to a peacock, walking his season’s feathers onto the catwalk and displaying his glorious colour palette of yellows, purples, greens, and cerulean blue for us to fall in love with. www.hannibal-laguna.com
