The anniversary shows for the AW14 men’s and women’s collections displayed palettes of camel, brown, maroon, grey, purple, green, black and metallic silver in the usual apparel. This year, to celebrate its 125th anniversary, DAKS went back to its year of inception for the AW19 collection. The opening piece was a tailored three-piece suit, house check shirt, and flat cap, followed by a beautiful flowing dress with long sleeves, a thick brown belt bearing the brand’s name, and a top hat. This collection was more colourful with a rich palette of red and maroon. Aviation played a part with a pullover jacket, tie and flat cap in house check completed with a white shirt, camel trousers, and black riding boots. With camel always being the dominant colour in all of DAKS collections, the brand surprised its audience with a male mod- el wearing a green-grey three-piece suit worn under a purple velvet jacket with embroidery on the lapel. The colour purple continued in the next look with a female model wearing a pat- terned blouse. Other models wore house check coats, waist- coats, jackets, and trousers. The styles of the suits and long coats that followed got really creative in the way they were designed. In this collection, the brand highlighted their British heritage with an increase of house and windowpane check. There were also more male models walking than in earlier collections. Military-style jumpers with leather panels on the shoulders, worn with a green shirt and light green silk tie underneath, short trousers, riding boots, and a bumbag presented a uni- form look. DAKS played with more colours: maroon, brown, grey, purple, green and a variety of fabrics. It was a classic and modern presentation. With Giles Deacon serving as creative director between 2006 and 2008 and Filippo Scuffi since 2010, DAKS has seen a mas- sive transformation in the last few years. Italian-born Scuffi has focused firmly on quality materials and tailoring, with a more contemporary flavour which has been evident through- out each collection. The contrast of designs is always kept current while the variation of house and windowpane checks show that the brand truly values their British heritage and stands out from the rest. https://daks.com
