For their AW11 collection, the signature house check was the opener for the catwalk show in a matching frilly blouse and long skirt. Neutral and dark colours led the way for oversized jackets, roll neck jumpers, a matching woollen jumper and skirt set with a scarf thrown around the neck. The element of warmth was the key in this collection with thick jumpers, double-breasted coats, and polo necks. There was even a surprising pop of red amongst the mainly dark hues. It was the holiday season for DAKS’ SS12 collection. Video screens played images of a 1950s British seaside scene before launching into a selection of white and house check outfits, followed by hues of black and white. There were several Terry towelling mini shorts and playsuits, matching beach bags and apron-style midi-length halter dresses. Apart from the reminiscent beachwear, there were also flowing dresses, blouses matched with freestyle skirts, short jackets, and tailored jackets and trousers for the men. Throughout all of their collections, no matter the theme or inspi- ration, DAKS always ensure that there is a sense of British busi- ness wear element, albeit not formal. The fabrics used are light and move freely as the models walk. Their house check is utilised in different forms which makes it exciting to watch as you do not always know what to expect but you know it will be included in each collection. The shirts, trousers, and coats for men are always perfectly tailored in a constructed way but have the freedom to flow.
