bite music celeb Demand, Cashflow Harlem, and Josh X. Upon discussing the single ‘What a Girl Likes’, she revealed, “I wanted to make a song that would make girls dance, twerk and at the same time encourage them to go get that Shmoney.” Her ongoing so-called beef with fellow female rap artist Nicki Minaj hasn’t gone unnoticed either. Some said it started at a Harper’s Bazaar event at New York Fashion Week last September when Cardi B reportedly confronted Nicki about some lies she had been spreading and threw an expensive shoe at her. Others say it happened before then when the two collaborated on Migos’ track ‘Motorsport’ and their verses were interpreted as a feud in rap form. Both denied this and claimed that women in music are often pitted against each other for no reason. Whichever way it happened and when, it was said that Nicki had name-dropped Offset, Cardi’s boyfriend at the time, in a ‘Swish Swish’ verse in May 2017 and fans believed she intended to ruffle a few feathers. Cardi responded by venting on Instagram Live about how ‘fake’ people in the industry are and she was much hap- pier in the Bronx where she could address her detractors head-on (but couldn’t do how she would have dealt with the situation, being in the music industry). In July of that same year, Nicki was seen dancing to Cardi’s ‘Bodak Yellow’ track at a nightclub, indirectly showing subtle support. A month later, Nicki, Offset and 21 Savage featured on London on da Track’s song ‘No Flag’ in which he encouraged Nicki to address her enemies on the track. Whilst she denied targeting Cardi, her opening verse was taken as an attack on the rapper. Cardi responded by addressing a mystery woman during a performance at MoMa PS1 Warm Up event in New York, claiming that the unnamed person never liked her and now, all of a sudden, she wants to be friends with her. It was during this time that Cardi received a lot of love and support for ‘Bodak Yellow’ from artists such as Drake and Migos. While this was going on, Cardi B was dealing with her own marital woes with hubby Offset. After they’d first collaborated on her track ‘Lick’ from second al- bum Gangsta B*tch Music, Vol 2 in January 2017, they started dating soon after, but both denied this when asked by the media. Their attendance at the Met Gala afterparty in May confirmed the dating rumours and in September, they ‘sponta- neously’ got married although this wasn’t confirmed until the following year. In December, Offset’s iCloud account was hacked and a picture of another woman was released, citing cheating allegations. Although she didn’t address the allegations immediately, the rapper delivered Be- yoncé’s ominous “You [do] that sh*t again, you gon’ lose your wife” line onstage
