bite catwalk ONES TO WATCH … P resented by Fashion Scout ‘Ones to Watch’, a plat- form that exposes talented emerging designers, the ‘collaborative showcase’ is meant to promote these brands to an international audience and market, connecting them with potential investors, collaborators and buyers. An exciting opportunity for all of those involved with the platform; it has seen numerous successes throughout the years, with many going on to become a part of the Fashion Scout schedule. Highly anticipated, the showcase emphases its role in promoting design innovation, with this season seeing the likes of Nous Editions, AuCarre and Price on Request. The youth and creativity of these brands made it a joy to watch. Price on Request Established in 2016, Price on Request is an award-winning ‘multi-gender’ brand hailing from Zagreb, in Croatia. Designer Gala MarijaVrbanic encompassed passion for her heritage and sustainability into her SS19 collection. The key inspiration came from the archives of her mother’s own fashion brand ‘Xenia Design’. Gala selected a number of pieces and reimagined them in the image of her brand, transforming them into modern trendy looks, appealing to the fashion of today with a nod to the past. Gala prioritised the importance of sustainable practice in the development and creation of her collection. A passion to be a brand that has minimal contribution to pollution Price on Request works with a lot of recycled fabrics and garments. Functionality is also highly considered. Pieces were reimagined and redesigned to fit new purposes; jackets were reimagined into trousers, patched together with panels of sheet mesh and pleather - creating an interesting detail that appeared throughout the collection and kept it relevant and on trend with the addition of graphic prints. A bold and futuristic take on sustainable fashion. Nous Etudions Romi Cardillo is the designer behind the brand Nous Etudions. Created in 2014 the brand has worked its way to becoming known as ‘The Next Green Talent’ championing vegan leather and environmentally friendly fibres. Their sustainable practice is fun and bold and has proved that fashion can be ethical and work with the environment. SS19 held true to the brand’s sustainable ethos with the collec- tion titled ‘Creatures of the Universe’, an exploration of nature, shapes and textiles through bold colours of pastels to accents of blue, yellow, green and gold. Nous Etudions created a collection for ‘a new nomad individual who questions defining himself’. Experimenting with new bio textiles it showed Remi was up for challeng- ing the traditions of fashion design and instead prioritising the idea of identity and self-expression through details and definitions. Deconstructed textiles explored his exploration of plant-based textiles in a loosely tailored style complimented with purposeful accessories. AuCarre Emphasising feminine power, AuCarre explored the idea of using fashion as a means of storytelling. The designers, who are twins, created a contemporary collection using their character and empowering thoughts. Pioneering fabrica- tions, contemporary aesthetic and elements of luxury style were the key themes. Explored through a complex combination of knitwear, sportswear and feminine silhouettes their SS19 collection entitled ‘Feminine Surrealism’ provided onlookers with a glimpse into a dreamy world where the image of the woman is presented in a fearless, dynamic, strong and powerful way. Power dressing combined with softer feminine shapes, contrasting in a surrealist and unique way, explored the character and message that AuCarre held at the core of the collection. Utilising their strength of hand-drawn illustrations and motifs, this appeared through the design of the collection. Playing to their strengths they presented enlarged statement florals and smaller repetitive florals through patterns to symbolise the standardisation of femininity, beauty, vitality and life to contrast with masculinity which ran subtly throughout the collection.
