bite cars Driving Capacity Although they are slightly different in some ways, the McLaren 720S Spider has the same 4.0-litre twin turbocharged V8 engine that powers the 720S Coupe. It is mid-mounted for exceptional handling and purity of response, producing 720PS (hence the name of the model) and 770Nm respectively and has a power-to- weight ratio of 540PS per tonne at its lightest dry weight. With a top speed of 212mph, the Spider accelerates from 0-60mph in 2.9 seconds, only 0.1 seconds slower than the coupe. The seven-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) is just as ad- aptable as every other element in the 720S Spider and offers dif- ferent characteristics as the driver navigates through each mode. When the car is in Sport mode, the gearbox momentarily cuts the ignition spark during a shift which improves the gear changing times, and in Track mode the Inertia Push technology comes into play. This employs built-up kinetic energy to deliver an impulse of torque as the next forward gear is engaged. Interior When you open the door to the 720S Spider, now a frameless design that accommodates the Retract- able Hard Top system, you are invited into a truly sophisticated cabin with an extraordinary perception of space and the finest materials in sight that will feel welcoming and super luxurious. The dihedral doors do not just give you access into the cabin but it also helps to cool the high temperature radiator through air channels in the innovative double skin as well as help you access tighter parking spaces. Inside, you’ll find a centrally-mounted 8.0-inch high resolution Central Infotainment Screen used for the vehicle’s primary functions. The interface displays audio, media, navigation, climate control and other useful features while all the key applications are shown on a vertical carousel as well as being availa- ble via the quick access ‘hard’ keys below the screen. Here the dual-zone climate control and air condition- ing system will detect whether the Retractable Hard Top position changes from raised to lowered or vice versa. Delivering an incompatible combination of pre- cise body control and a compliant ride, McLaren’s
