The Bite Magazine - Spring 2019 - Issue 24
E c o conscious brand VIN + OMI opened London Fashion Week with a wacky and colour collection based on the theme of ‘Poodles and Pentagrams’.The designers explained the choice of pentagrams as a way to depict the new wave of ‘eco religion’, the star within a circle that has been used throughout time as a rep- resentation of religion so it felt fitting that the brand used this to present their ethos and the importance of developing and using sustainable textiles. The choice of poodles came as a result of a more fun and fashion reason citing “Is there a deeper message that you CAN dress like a show poodle and be responsible? YES!” The wacky com- bination of cutesy poodles and something with somewhat darker connotations made it a collec- tion you couldn’t take your eyes off. From the moment the models stepped off of the iconic red double decker bus it was clear VIN + OMI intended to leave a lasting impression. Repeated prints, bright fluorescent colours and utilitarian details created the unique accompani- ment to the collection’s number of home grown textiles.VIN + OMI pride themselves on being a brand that is eco-friendly with their main state- ment for their SS19 collection being “Thought is the New Religion”, utilising their research into sustainable fabric developments. They brought new projects to the catwalk such as their ‘BIN 2 BODY’ project which collected plastic bottles from the previous LFW season and developed them into textiles used to make the bags seen in the collection, through a collaboration with London College of Fashion design students. They also created the project ‘CAN 2 CATWALK’ which worked with homeless charities in Birming- ham collecting cans that were processed into a metal fabric. These were also the result of recycling and repurposing, with the previ- ous season’s shoes destined for landfill finding a new purpose. VIN + OMI expressed their passion for recycling and sustainability in this wacky, quirky and wondrous season finishing with the statement “we believe with a bit of a twist, recycling can become fresh new”. www.vinandomi.com bite catwalk VIN + OMI
