The Bite Magazine Issue 17
bite films L O G A N W olverine gets another solo film of his own, this time under his original name in this third and final sequel to X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009) and The Wolverine (2013) and the tenth instalment of the X-Men film series. Taking inspiration from Old Man Logan by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, Hugh Jackman is depicted as a past-his-prime Logan who seems to be struggling with life beyond slaying men (and women) with his swift knuckle blades. Patrick Stewart reprises his role as Charles Xavier after giving James McAvoy the tag to play his younger self in the last two X-Men films: First Class and Days of Future Past . Portraying a different side to the two men that we have never seen before, Xavier consistently reminds Logan that despite the fact that he is an aging mutant who is losing the ability to heal quickly, there are still others out there who need his help, especially a young girl called Laura who is being hunted by sinister forces and whom Xavier says is just like him. Jackman posted an image of Logan on social media indicating that this would be the last time he would be playing the character, after portraying him for the last 17 years. He explained that comedian Jerry Seinfield was indirectly responsible for his decision, “I was having a chat with [Seinfield] about a year ago and he was talking about why he finished Seinfield. He said he’d always had this feeling and belief that you never know when either your energy or the audience’s energy is going to dip over into people [saying] ‘Oh, please go.’” Whilst it is some- times good to see another side to a character, the question is, will people appreciate seeing Logan as this low- down has-been hero or do they prefer the blade-fighting Wolverine who put plenty of his enemies exactly where they should be. And who would have thought that the world’s most power- ful telepathic mutant would be losing his marbles as well, to the point that he sometimes does not remember who Logan is? We shall find out when the film hits our screens next year. Released Date: 3rd March 2017 www.foxmovies.com/movies/logan
