The Bite Magazine Issue 17

aken from the action-adventure video game, Assassin’s Creed is now coming to the big screen later this year. Just like the game, the film is set in the same universe but will feature an original story that expands the series’ mythology. Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch finds himself experi- encing the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15 th century Spain. He then discovers that he is a descend- ant of a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organisation in the present day. X-Men’s Michael Fassbender takes on the role of Callum Lynch and said of the character, “he doesn’t have a lineage he can feel a belonging to… he’s a bit of a lost soul. He’s always been drifting in and out of correctional facilities.” He conversely describes Aguilar as “very much somebody that belongs to the Creed. He has a cause [and] he’s sort of been following that cause. He belongs to it.” Academy award-winner Marion Cotillard plays opposite him as Sophia Rikkin, a leading scientist of the Animus project at Abstergo Founda- tion and the daughter of Alan Rikkin played by Jeremy Irons, a visionary CEO of both Abstergo Industries and Abstergo Foundation, who is dedicated to the ‘perfec- tion of humankind’. Directed by Justin Kurzel ( Snowdown, Macbeth ), this action-packed film is sure to embrace the success of the Ubisoft video game as well as bringing a brand new storyline with new characters to the table.
