NEW SINGLE RELEASES Winter Sun Worst Friend S ome people may recall the days of The Jam or The Smiths and bands like them of that era (yes I’m going back a bit) when fast guitar playing and jumping around was the norm. Actually the Red Hot Chili Peppers are a great example of these same tactics today. Well Edinburgh pop-punk quartet band Woes remind me of this very thing and watching the video to their debut single ‘Worst Friend’, shows that you can jump around and still sound good. Now having released their new single ‘Winter Sun’ taken from their debut S/T EP via Rude Records, the band explains the story behind the track: “Winter Sun is our love letter. Relationships are rarely easy and we wanted to explore the emotional journey that people take together and not leave out the difficult parts. That might sound grim, but it’s a happy, intro- spective song about love and how it will change your life.” Since they signed to Rude Records, the band has received critical acclaim from the likes of Kerrang!, Kerrang! TV, Rock Sound, Upset, Alt Press and Punktastic for their debut single ‘Worst Friend’, and they were even recommended by fellow band Neck Deep who praised their first single by saying,“UK Pop Punk done right.” All members of the band have toured the UK and Europe multi- ple times in previous bands, so brought their experiences to the table when they came together at the beginning of 2016 to formWoes.They have spent the early part of the year writing songs, turning to Seb Barlow (Neck Deep, ROAM, WSTR) for help in realising their vision in the studio with buoyant messages of hope, to crushing despair and back again, without ever losing direction.With years of touring experience, their shows are said to be full of anthemic choruses, tight vocal harmonies, and huge, thundering drums. With their new EP, Woes is ready to push their genre forward with layers of intricacy and depth, whilst packing in the youthful energy and massive cho- ruses, fans of the genre have come to know and love.
