The Bite Magazine Issue 17
David Ferreira is a newcomer to London Fashion Week and this season marked his second collection to walk. He won the coveted Merit award last year, earning him a spot on this season’s calendar where he presented his AW16 collection to the wide audience of buyers, editors and media fash- ionistas the world over. He is known for his great attention to detail and craftsmanship, which fits with his desire to marry tradition and modernity in perfect harmony. This col- lection, while very bold, showcases this desire to present classic styles with a bit of a quirky and contemporary twist. In my opinion, it was like seeing girls from a pop rock/punk video walk on a runway on Valentine’s Day. Everything from the over-the-top use of faux fur in bright pinks and reds, to the ruffled layers of tulle and embellished rhinestone trimmings just added to the ultra-rock star looks. He also showed exaggerated and voluptuous silhouettes that only furthered these punk-inspired pieces. To me, many of these pieces would suit those whose per- sonal tastes run towards the likes of Lady Gaga or Katy Perry - crazy bold and bright, yet still girly and flirty. I loved his brazenness and how editorial everything was, but I’m not sure I’m on board with the choice for the models’ hair and make-up - still a bit too heavy for this editor’s tastes. Loved Looks: #3: This red vest is pretty awesome! #7: I love the volume and shape of this skirt and this shade of red is perfect! #11: The red pom-pom detailing on the waist and skirt is adorable.
