Before their destruction in the original film, the aliens managed to send a signal back to their other forces. Now an even larger alien army is heading to Earth, determined once again to destroy humanity. David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) is now the Director of Earth Space Defence, a global defence programme against alien invasion created from technology recovered in the original battle. Sadly there's no return for Will Smith (Captain Hillier), but there's help from his stepson  Jessie Usher as Dylan Dubrow-Hiller,  Liam Hemsworth as pilot Jake Morrison and Bill Pullman as former President Thomas J. Whitmore. Sela Ward is President Lanford in the new war for survival, and there's the welcome return of Judd Hirsch as Julius Levinson, David's father.With a reported $200 million budget, it looks set to be a spectacular alien invasion on an even larger scale than before.
