F or someone who has worked in theatres all over Serbia as well as on film sets, industrial environments, editorials for magazine, advertising campaigns and participation in the early years of Belgrade Fashion Week, Serbian-born designer Budislava Keković has achieved a lot. After graduating from Belgrade’s Faculty of Applied Arts in 1995, the designer’s diversity of work has brought her a wide spectrum of experience in all aspects of fashion and design.Two of the most important moments of her career happened last year when she presented her work at Milan EXPO in Italy as part of a Serbian art and culture presenta- tion, and at the Belgrade Fashion Week during London Fashion Week in Sep- tember. It may have been on a Fashion Scout platform but it was a ‘dream come true’ for the designer to showcase every part of her collection including clothing, shoes, gloves and visors.The experience changed her perspective and has opened up many opportunities of an international career. Whilst she continues to design clothing, shoes, bags and jewellery for the brand, her designs can be found in the heart of the Belgrade Design District of which she is one of the founders. Her inspirations derive from simple forms and dark tones of the underwater world as well as modern architecture geometry, Japanese art and culture and the wonders of nature. The designer’s work has been featured in numerous magazines such as Gloria, Elle, Naomi, E magazine, Grazia, Story magazine and Hello! One thing you’ll notice about Budislava’s designs is that they are very geomet- ric with clean lines. At Fashion Scout’s Belgrade Fashion Week last September (which was first established in 1996), you couldn’t help but keep your eyes fixed on the designer’s space sirens which marched to intergalactic Martian music with Perspex acrylic box sunglasses that Lady Gaga would be proud of. Using the designer’s love of geometric architecture, the presentation was a picture of stylis- tic aliens in a predominantly black and white with touches of grey collection inspired by Japanese culture with out-of- sync pockets and asymmetrical textures, draped in layers on the dresses. Budislava said of her experience at London Fashion Week, “For me this was the highlight of my career so far and a memorable expe- rience. The opportunity to introduce myself to the most important fashion scene in the world with the complete collection at the time, also the most important fashion event is unique and Budislava Cristina Lloyd finds out more about one of Serbia’s hottest designers Budislava Keković and her SS16 collection presentation at Fashion Scout’s Belgrade Fashion Week.
