With credentials like these, Sabinna took the leap and launched her current label, SABINNA, while also working as a fashion design consultant for international brands like Sandqvist and Sony. In 2015, SABINNA was awarded Creative Pioneer start-up sponsoring from Vienna Business Agency, as well as being supported by the Austrian Fashion Association. These prestigious awards speak for themselves; this designer knows what she’s doing. Sabinna’s professional background proves that she knows what the world of luxury wants, but her personal history also inspires her work. Growing up, she watched her grandmother create hand- made, treasurable garments for friends and family. The hand crocheted pieces in each of Sabinna’s collections serve as tribute to the memory of her grand- mother and her talent that spurred and encouraged her to work in fashion. This inspiration of how to provide highly per- sonal, luxury pieces to the masses is the goal of the SABINNA brand. That being said, the SS16 collection presents this luxury in all its glory. This line was inspired by the story of a girl who suffered from wanderlust, travel- ling from country to country, away from what’s familiar and safe. The collection is the construction of a physical dream that came to life of all the places this girl has visited, combining all the things she’s seen into reality so she’ll never forget the memories of her travels. Each of the 20 pieces that walked down the runway convey this sense of wandering, a sense of summertime adventure that affects most of us when temperatures rise and the urge to leave the familiar sets in. Featuring graceful and simple silhou- ettes and styles of pencil skirts, silk tops, shift dresses and cropped A-line coats in cute polka dot prints and sweet revis- able stripes, the line-up was a lovely portrayal of easy-breezing clothing for spring/summer. The knitted bucket bags and espadrille accessories were an added bonus to the looks too. However, what stole the show were the 3D printed details on some of the garments. “The play on contrast is evident through the juxtaposition of stripes on reverse and in handcrafted crochet and 3D printed flowers. The 3D printed details are an exact replica of the handmade crochet and show the connection between traditional craftsmanship and modern technologies. By combining extreme soft yarns and crisp organza adds to the deli- cate features of total opposite.The fronts are kept quite simple while the backs are in full bloom, bursting with intricate details.” The attention to these details in the knitted pieces represent the great skill, patience and hard work that goes into their creation, which is crucial when you begin to immerse oneself in a new place, i.e. the theme of the collection comes full circle.“When you surround yourself with the unfamiliar, it can be exciting, alienating and exhilarating all at once.” As a whole, I loved the collection, as it was somehow both cute and youthful while also very mature and extremely wearable. The light and bright colour palette of whites, blues and pops of reds and orange makes it perfect for any sum- mertime occasion or look. Everyone is sure to find something in this collection that speaks to them and their wardrobe needs.
