Fashion in Motion Gina Gill gets mesmerised by the Peter Pilotto Fashion in Motion show held at the V&A Museum in London. T here’s something really lovely about seeing pieces from col- lections that span a designer’s career all together on one catwalk and that’s why the V&A’s retrospective ‘Fashion in Motion’ shows are quickly becoming our favour- ite fashion events! They’ve put on some fabulous designer shows over the past few years, including Kansai Yamamoto, Meadham Kirchhoff, Ralph & Russo, the glamorous Jenny Packham, and the roguish Ashish, and most recently they staged a beautiful show for Peter Pilotto. The luxury womenswear label headed by Austrian-Italian designer Peter Pilotto with the help of Belgian-Peruvian co-de- signer Christopher DeVos has long been one of the standout shows at London FashionWeek and seeing the very best of each collection together in one show was definitely a special experience. “Art and artefacts are such a source of inspiration to us that it seems fitting to be showcas- ing a retrospective of the brand amidst such incredible history,” said Pilotto, one half of the label’s design duo, ahead of the show. Originally founded by the label’s name- sake Peter Pilotto, Christopher De Vos joined the helm in 2007. The duo, who met whilst studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, have been a cre- ative force to be reckoned with ever since they joined forces at the east Lon- don-based label, combining their unique personal perspectives and their skills in silhouette, drapery, textiles and print to create innovative and contemporary designs. Complex graphics juxtapose soft, sculptural shapes and combinations of textures and bold colours form the ever-evolving style of the design duo. As a brand, Peter Pilotto is built on con- temporary digital prints but over time they have grown to encompass their indi- vidual skills to build collections that are not only modern in the moment but also have real longevity, as the retrospective show so elegantly demonstrated. With both designers having dual nationalities, there is a distinctly international feel to their designs and the melding of cultures comes across through their use of silhou- ette, their rich use of fabric and of course in the form of their digital prints.
