Bobby Abley T here was no lack of humour, but tongue-in-cheek some of it may have been, at the AW16 catwalk show for Bobby Abley this season. Known for his over-the- top looks, Abley drew inspiration from Brazil’s Rio Carnival and Disneyland, which made for some fun and funky looks that were both full of vivid colours and interesting shapes. At times, it felt like the crazed fans from a football match, fully kitted out in spirited attire were set loose in a Disney theme park, which, let’s face it, would be pretty awesome. However, some of the looks were a bit more mature in nature than those meant for the “happiest place on Earth,” but rather for those who find their entertainment in the neon-lit tombs of disco clubs. Overall, I loved the relaxed, carefree-feel of the show, that fashion is supposed to be fun and exuberant, and not always a repeat of men in black suits.The colourful feathers and amazing graphic prints really shouted out this message, and I for one, am glad to have heard Abley’s call. Sure! #12: Feathers! bitemen Maharishi M aharishi has been always been known for its urban ninja/soldier looks, with pieces that would be right at home on the backs of post-apocalyptic city dwellers of the future. Matrix meets Inception? His bold prints and monochromatic colour palette did little to vary from his previous col- lections as many looks were near copies of things he’s already shown. However, no one ever said messing with what works is a good idea, right? Overall, the one thing I walked away with is I liked his use of older male models with definitely untraditional looks, as they, more than the clothes, stole the show.
