ANNABEL GOLDIE-MORRISON SELECTS THE BEST VILLAS HERE AND ABROAD
TO HELP YOU CHOOSE THAT DREAM HAVEN FOR YOUR SUMMER HOLIDAY!
A PLACE OF MY OWN
Offering more freedom, pri-
vacy and space than a hotel,
villas are the perfect way to
relax on holiday and enjoy
your surroundings. Long sum-
mer days can be spent loung-
ing beside your private pool
or exploring the local area
and discovering unspoilt
countryside, quiet beaches
and local haunts. We’ve
selected seven of our
favourite properties
in
Europe and further afield...
Morocco
Best for...living like a Sultan
Situated in the prestigious Palmeraie area, just fifteen minutes from
Marrakech’s medina and souks, Ezzahra is set in extensive gardens with shad-
ed terraces, a large pool and a variety of outdoor games. The villa, sleeping up
to fourteen, offers guests the intimacy of a private country house, whilst the
permanent staff of 15 ensures that every requirement is met – from delicious
menus to activities, excursions and shopping. The interior is decorated in the
style of a traditional riad, with Moroccan fabrics, art, and furniture from
around the world. Seven luxurious en-suite double rooms each have a dress-
ing room and private terrace, and there’s also a fully-equipped gym, hammam
and spa area, two cinema rooms and a Berber tent.
Greece
Best for...scenic seclusion
Artist-owned Villa Pyrgos is set high on
the island of Skopelos’ north-east coast,
totally private with dramatic views along
a rugged coastline and across the sea to
the island of Alonissos. The villa is deco-
rated and furnished with an interesting
fusion of unusual colours and shapes.
There’s an open-plan sitting room, dining
area and kitchen, two bathrooms, a
gallery double bedroom and a further
twin bedroom. Outside there’s a bar-
beque and private pool with magnificent
views. The surrounding hillsides hold
many walking trails through the unspoilt
countryside, and Skopelos Town is a mere
five kilometres away.
