In April of this year, Julian Hakes was
posed with the
Iron Man 3
million-dollar
question, “If Tony Stark himself were to
design a pair of shoes for Pepper Potts,
what would they be like?” In applying his
futuristic and innovative approach to shoe
design, the designer fitted his signature
‘Mojito’ shoe with an LED light,resembling
the ‘ARC-reactor’ that powers Iron Man’s
suit, to create a one-off unique pair of
shoes in Iron Man’s classic red and chrome
suit colours. “Because of my design and
engineering background, I’ve always been
fascinated by Tony Stark in Marvel’s
Iron
Man
comic books and films. The ‘Mojito’
shoe is a result of an
architectural driven
process,” the designer
said. “After realising
that only the heel
and ball of the feet

support
t
o
m a x i m i s e
comfort,
I
created
many
different prototypes
before arriving at the
‘Mojito’ design – perhaps even
rivalling the number of suits created by
Tony Stark.”
Iron Man 3,
the latest action-
packed 3D adventure from
Marvel took an astounding £13.7
million at the UK box office over its four
day opening and £11.4 million over the
weekend. It smashed the previous record
held by
Les Miserables
and has significantly
exceeded the opening weekend of the
last two
Iron Man
movies (
Iron Man
took
£4,799,504 and
Iron Man 2
£6,750,982).
Gwyneth Paltrow, the actress who plays
Pepper Potts in the
Iron Man
trilogy is
no stranger to Julian Hakes’ work and
donated a signed white pair of Hakes’
‘Mojito’ shoes to help raise money for
‘Stand Up For Cancer UK’ last year.
David Lee, Footwear Director for The
Walt Disney Company EMEA said, “This
