With a realistic mind-set and keen
intuitive, Emily has helped to secure
opportunities for others in the Scottish
fashion industry through Design Collective
Scotland. The collective, formed by Emily,
Marc Ross and Di Gilpin in 2011, acts as
a platform for Scottish fashion designers
enabling them to work in Scotland and to
experience success internationally, through
events like London Fashion Week. Sitting
up straight, eyes locked on mine Emily said,
“We felt there was a real lack of support
for up-and-coming Scottish designers so
we clubbed together and decided that we
would support ourselves since no one else
is doing it.”
The design collective have now
expanded with the launch of the Eighty
Six shop in April this year. The shop at 86
Dumbarton Road, Glasgow stocks only
high quality pieces from emerging Scottish
designers. The Design Collective is also due
to launch a training academy at the same
premises with designers teaching a range of
dressmaking and shoe design skills. “Eighty
Six provides us with the opportunity to
act as a showcase and an outlet as well
as a support system for other designers.
All the profits from the shop go towards
paying for the designers’ stock and to help
us showcase at future international fashion
weeks and events.”
A determined ambassador for Scottish
design talent, Emily Lamb is leading the way
for a new generation of hopeful Scottish
designers. Having experienced much
success in just two years of business, Emily
hopes to work internationally. “Over the
next couple of years my focus is to take
on more stockists worldwide.Three years
from now I want to think about opening
my first boutique, separately from Eighty
Six.”
