Also a runner-up for South Korea’s Project
Catwalk equivalent, it seems Cha has a
prosperous future ahead of her.
Despite her previous successes,the bubbly
and excitable Hana Cha keenly expressed her
gratitude for theVauxhall Fashion Scout event.
“I am so happy to be here, I cannot believe I
was chosen. I am so thankful.”
With enthusiasm and dedication, Hana
hopes to keep pushing her design boundaries.
“Though I already have a unique style, I
would like to go deeper in each collection
and explore my creativity further to really
establish my own identifiable brand, I think
that is essential in order to stand out in
today’s industry.”
Hellen van Rees brought the
‘Ones to
Watch’
show to a close with a triumphant
bang. Her eye-catching, 3D box shape
collection took recycled tweed, the heritage
material, on a very modern journey and left us
all feeling positively excited about the future
of the fashion industry. Inspired by the classic
Chanel blazer, a piece that has redefined
women’s style, and modern art installations by
Anish Kapoor and RachelWhitbread, Hellen’s
1920s silhouettes sprouted a cityscape of
avant-garde boxes.
Blushing bashfully, Hellen charms with
her modest enthusiasm, “I like to mix the
traditional and the futuristic. I like to explore
the limits of the materials I use, which is how
I created the sculptural cubes.”
With such an experimental and brave
approach to design it is hardly surprising
that Hellen has been crafting clothes since
childhood. “As a child I was very creative,
I have always had an interest in materials. I
made dresses for my Barbie’s and as I grew
older began to sketch designs.”
Following her childhood passion further,
Hellen studied BA Fashion Design at theArtEZ
institute of the Arts in the Netherlands. Now
a London-based designer, Hellen has recently
completed a Master’s degree in womenswear
at Central Saint Martins.
Having experienced much publicity since
the announcement of her
‘Ones toWatch’
debut
Hellen said, “I am so grateful to have been
given the opportunity to showcase at such a
high profile event, especially considering that
this is my first collection since my Master’s
degree. I could not be happier with the
response.”
With a remarkable response to her S/S
2013 collection, it seems Hellen will no doubt
be back at London FashionWeek next season.
“I am hoping that this exposure will continue
to raise awareness of my brand. I plan to
keep progressing forward and to gain more
stockists.”
The impressive variety of design talent
showcased at theVauxhall Fashion Scout
‘Ones
toWatch’
instils confidence in the future of the
fashion world. In an ever-changing innovative
industry, these four emerging designers are
pushing the boundaries and the Bite team
cannot wait to see what they will do next.
