Tien’s career as an individual womenswear
designer. “I am very proud to have been
chosen as one of the
‘Ones to Watch’
this
season. I hope this will be my first step
towards a career in London and that it will
bring me new and exciting opportunities.”
Charlotte Simpson perfected chic
minimalism in her sophisticated
collection. Her pastel coloured, fine
cut, beaded dresses elongated the
female silhouette and conveyed a
theme of scientific discovery.
With a controlled handshake and an
assured smile, Charlotte is no stranger
to success. Since winning the Zandra
Rhodes Textiles Award at Graduate
Fashion Week in 2009, Charlotte has
been featured in publications such as
Vogue, Elle
and
i-D Magazine.
Having
shown at Vauxhall Fashion Scout in
London and Paris previously, Charlotte
emphasises the importance of their
work. “I exhibited last year atVauxhall
Fashion Scout but to showcase my
new collection to its full potential
on the catwalk was amazing. These
events have given new designers
access to a lot of publicity that we
would struggle to find ourselves at
such an early stage in our careers.”
Influenced by her mother’s
passion for style, Charlotte’s
interest in fashion stems back to
her childhood. After graduating
with a BA in Fashion at Northumbria
University Charlotte completed her
Masters in Fashion DesignTechnology at the
London College of Fashion and gained some
impressive work experience with fashion
houses such as DKNY, AmandaWakely and
Julien Macdonald.
In keeping with her highly popular
design signature these high quality pieces
subtly evoked the theme of scientific
discovery through detailed embroidery and
embellishments. The use of citrus green
and yellow and sunset orange and pink
emphasised the attention to detail present
in Charlotte’s designs. “For this season
I continued from my previous biological
influences with a focus on the mouth,
particularly the taste buds and muscles in
the tongue which, somewhere down the
line, translated into sparkles.”
Hana Cha proved that classic
monochromatic colourings can be used
in a multitude of ways to create an entire
modern fashion story. From fringing, dip
dye and texture clashes to applique stars,
baseball caps and wristbands Hana Cha’s
portrayal of class conflict certainly had it all.
“Dress expresses one’s ideas. It reveals an
individual’s identity to the outside world.”
The 26-year-old Korean designer,
who left Seoul an award winning fine
art graduate, recently gained a second
degree in MA Womenswear Fashion
Design and Technology from the London
College of Fashion for which she also won
‘Womenswear Collection of the Year’.
