I t’s always nice having hot weather in summer, but the unexpected heatwave in late June and early July was a right scorcher.The Met Office recorded eight consecutive days with temperatures exceeding 34ºC, surpassing the previous record set in 1976 and 2020. This year is also the first in the UK weather record to see temperatures reach 35ºC or higher in May, June, and July. Does this mean we could expect more scorching weather in the coming months or years? Despite the soaring temperatures, we managed to enjoy the theatrics of the FIFA World Cup with a few cold beers, no doubt. Although England placed third, they played exceptionally well in their match against France, after a rather upsetting and close defeat by Argentina, who many will agree played rather dirty. Perhaps Spain taking the cup in the final game after extra time on 19 July, albeit a slow and uneventful game, was payback through another entity. As car brands continue to advance in the electric vehicle sector, we see productions like the fully electric BMW iX3 embody the marque’s shift toward a genuinely human‑centric electric future. Jaguar returns to its founding ethos of ‘Copy Nothing’ with its artistic, pastel-coloured all-electric concept car, Type 00, which expresses its creative philosophy. We marvel at another Bugatti client commission in which the W16 Mistral is transformed into a Fly Bug centred on the dragonfly by the Sur Mesure team. We learn how South African singer-songwriter Tyla was discovered after she shared original songs and covers on Instagram. Thanks to her popiano sound (a blend of pop and amapiano) and a genre term she coined, we have enjoyed tracks like ‘Water’ and ‘Chanel’. After an eight- year hiatus from releasing music, R&B singer Miguel returned with a darker, edgier, and more chaotic album, CAOS, which explores themes of pain, change, and personal transformation that have impacted his life. The traditional game of pool is knocked out of the ballpark with the launch of Poolhouse in Liverpool Street, an interactive gameplay facility powered by AI.Tigermilk expanded its footprint with a new Spitalfields outpost and a Sunday Brunch on Charing Cross Road. Meanwhile, Camden welcomed a brand new Rum Kitchen, bringing its riotous colour and Caribbean pulse north of the river. And high above the skyline, Aqua Shard in London Bridge partnered with BG Fish Supplies for an exclusive dinner.
