As football fever gripped the world during the World Cup, Jada Brookes admires Tequila Cazadores’ collaboration with Mexican footballer Cristo Fernández, celebrating fans. bitedrinks Carded by Cristo Tequila Cazadores and Cristo Fernández I t began with a hardworking and de- termined dreamer in 1922, working under the sun in Jalisco’s highlands, spending years perfecting a tequi- la recipe for his friends and family. His recipe, fiercely guarded and shared only by word of mouth, travelled through genera- tions until, in the early 1970s, his grandson decided the world deserved a taste of it, too. He built a distillery, carried the vision forward, and gave the tequila a name that captured the journey and the land: Caza- dores, meaning ‘The Hunters’, inspired by the stags roaming the agave fields and by the years his grandfather spent searching for the perfect blend. The stag, symbol of wisdom, confidence, and strength, became part of the brand’s folklore, a creature as rooted in the land as the family who first distilled its spirit. Today, that legacy has expanded far beyond one family in Arandas. The entire Ca- zadores community, from the jimadors who harvest the agave to the taquerías feeding the bottling teams, pours its pride into every drop. A century later, raising a glass still feels like honouring the original craftsman whose vision shaped the tequila’s character. Cazadores continues to live by a single rule: tequila made from 100% blue Weber agave, nothing added, nothing disguised, always kept real. The original 1922 recipe remains the heart of the process, now brought to life through modern, fully sustainable methods that generate zero waste. Agave not only be- comes tequila but also powers the distillery itself. Awards follow for the brand’s mini- mal carbon footprint, but the motivation is protecting the land and the people who have shaped Cazadores for generations. Inside the distillery, a meticulous sev- en-step process unfolds. The agave piñas, harvested after six to eight years, are processed through a unique 24-step extraction process that yields 99% of their raw juice. Fermentation happens slowly, accompanied by Mozart, a nod to the belief that music can soothe yeast and water into producing a smoother spirit. Double dis- tillation and careful maturation refine the flavour until it reaches the same exquisite profile first tasted a century ago. In addition to the original Cazadores Tequila, made with a 100% blue agave highland tequila from Arandas, Jalisco, Mexico and a great base for cocktails like Margaritas and Palomas, the brand also created Cazadores Blanco, an unaged, crys- tal-clear tequila with crisp, vibrant notes of citrus, pepper, and fresh agave. Cazadores Reposado is rested for 2 to 10 months in new American white oak barrels, offering a smooth balance of agave, vanilla, and woody flavours. This summer, Tequila Cazadores stepped back onto the global fútbol (football) stage with Cristo Fernández at its side. It reunit- ed with the Mexican actor, filmmaker, and professional player to honour the people who make the sport feel alive: the real fans whose chants, nerves, rituals, and wild be- lief electrify every match. Their new collab- oration, Carded by Cristo, turned fútbol’s famous yellow and red cards into playful badges of honour, a way to celebrate the personalities who fill the stands and living rooms all season long. Carded by Cristo, where the sporting star cards fans in person, celebrates the full spectrum of fan energy, the superstitious diehard clutching their lucky jersey, the self-appointed coach analysing every pass, and the friend who starts chanting before
