The Bite Magazine - Autumn/Winter 2025 - Issue 38
bitefashion O f the three designers, Kasai offered a tonal shift that was sleek, spiritual, and visceral all at once. The Romanian designer Ana Olingheru built her Autumn-Winter col- lection around the tension between masculine and feminine, structure and flow. “We are expected to wear suits to be taken se- riously,” the collection statement reads. “To conform in spaces still dominated by male expectations,” Olingheru responds by merg- ing tailored silhouettes with corsetry and draped dresses, creating a wardrobe where duality becomes power. High-quality silks and virgin wools move fluidly around the body; the brand’s signature cut-outs soften sharp suiting lines. The gar- ments seem to breathe armour and skin, rooted in the meditative process that gave the label its name (Kasai emerged during one of Olingheru’s spiritual practices). The brand positions itself as a re- bellion against fast fashion and the disposability of identity. Each piece is produced slowly, in limited quantities, using natural Ital- ian fabrics. To wear Kasai is to engage in a ritual of self-awareness of clothing as consciousness, not consumption. The name itself carries a haunting echo; Kasai is also a region in Africa associated with the exploitation of children in diamond mines. This duality between light and shadow, creation and ex- ploitation, underpins Olingheru’s vision. Her designs channel empathy into elegance, transforming fashion into a form of re- sistance. The collection feels intimate yet declarative, speaking di- rectly to women who navigate systems still bound by patriarchal codes. “Crafted slowly, worn timelessly,” Kasai’s mantra declares a philosophy amid Milan’s trend-driven churn. Together, these three designers form a compelling triptych of what contemporary fashion can be when ethics and aesthetics meet on equal ground. Milan Fashion Week AW25 felt like a breath of integrity. It’s a reminder that the future of fashion may not lie in perpetual novelty, but in renewal in the rediscovery of values, materials and meanings that have always been with us, waiting for hands brave enough to transform them. https://kasai-studio.com KASAI
