The Bite Magazine - Autumn/Winter 2025 - Issue 38
biteawards segment offered intimacy, showcasing emerging art- ists before wider recognition. Eli Derby’s soulful ‘Ca- dillac Dream’, TA Thomas’ smooth ‘Preach’, and Le- kan’s heartfelt ‘Always’ all hinted at the next wave of R&B and hip-hop unfolding in real time. Sony Music Publishing earned Publisher of the Year, representing nearly two dozen of the year’s most-per- formed hits, from ‘Agora Hills’ to ‘Saturn’ and ‘On My Mama’. It was a reminder that behind every chart run lies a network of writers, producers, and publishers building the scaffolding of success. The night also celebrated 71 first-time winners, a clear sign of the genre’s rapid expansion, diversity, and embrace of new voices. The ceremony ultimately reflected the genre’s contin- uum. T-Pain’s award honoured the innovators who laid the foundation, GloRilla’s win captured the force of the current generation, and Kendrick and Soun- wave embodied artistry with staying power. Mean- while, younger performers offered glimpses of what’s next. Nothing felt separate; every moment was con- nected, part of the same evolving story of R&B and hip-hop. By the end, the night wasn’t about recreating the past or predicting the future. It was about showing how alive the genre remains shifting, expanding, and pro- pelled by artists at every stage of their careers. The history was palpable, but so was the urgency of those just beginning. In the end, the 2025 BMI Awards cap- tured the culture exactly as it feels right now. https://awards.bmi.com/show/rnb-2025 Visuals courtesy of Getty Images
