Jada Brookes chronicles the couture of rebels and romantics through the lens of Joshua Kane’s stitched storytelling. bitedesignerprofile Special Designer Profile JOSHUA KANE L uxury bespoke tailor Joshua Kane has redefined British tailoring with theatrical flair, meticulous craftsmanship, and a rebellious spirit rooted in heritage and innovation. His designs are a modern homage to the original dandy, Beau Brummell, blending Victorian elegance with contemporary edge. Collections like ‘The Dandy Rebels’ and ‘The Shipwrecked Tailors’ showcase sharp silhouettes, rich textures, and bold prints that evoke drama and precision. The designer’s aesthetic of waxed moustache, razor-sharp suits, and a flair for theatrical presentation is unmistakable. His gar- ments often feature intricate embroidery, exaggerated lapels, and custom linings, making each piece a wearable work of art. Whether dressing A-list celebrities or crafting digital fashion for the metaverse, Kane’s designs are always distinctive, daring, and deeply personal. “It's about making something really wonderful and beautiful.” Born in Oxford, Kane’s journey to fashion prominence was anything but linear. Before launching his eponymous label, he played semi-professional football for Fulham from age 13 to 18. He studied fashion design at Kingston University and developed his impeccable skills by training with his pattern-cutting tutor, who was also a Savile Row pattern cutter, outside university hours during his first year. Here, he designed patterns, devel- oped his own style, solved problems and learned from mistakes. “I've always counted myself as so grateful to be able to do what I do from being in university, to being accepted on the course, to getting tutors that gave me the training, to meeting new amaz- ing people that trained me outside, to getting my first work placement unpaid, but met amazing people that inspired me,” he told Carl Thompson online. “Every aspect has been long hours and hard work, challenging and frustrating at times, but at the back of my head, I was always so grateful for what I've got now.” Kane’s fashion pedigree was honed at British powerhouses like Burberry Prorsum, where he designed the runway collections under Christopher Bailey, and refined his expertise and point of view. He also gained experience at Brooks Brothers, Jaeger, and Paul Smith, working his way up to a senior designer role. In 2014, he founded Joshua Kane Bespoke, starting from a living room studio and growing into a townhouse atelier in Maryle- bone, London. At the heart of Kane’s brand is a philosophy of uncompromising artistry. He believes fashion should be an extension of charac- ter, not just clothing. “Creating tailoring to reflect one's person- ality.” His ethos is built on tailoring as storytelling, with every stitch telling a tale, and every garment is a narrative. Inclusivity through individuality, his designs cater to dreamers, rebels, and romantics. With sustainability through longevity, bespoke piec- es are made to last, resisting fast fashion’s fleeting trends. Joshua Kane Bespoke curates both men’s and women’s formal wear. Apparel for men includes the Black Velvet and Pegasus Jacquard Dinner Suit, tailored in 100% cotton jet-black velvet cloth, with the collar and pocket flaps cut in the brand’s ton- al black ‘Pegasus’ jacquard cloth, uniquely designed by Joshua Kane and woven in England. The single-breasted jacket features a shawl collar, jetted pockets with flaps and a cuff detail.
