This sustainable shift cascaded from the 1940s organic farming movement, which emerged to challenge agriculture industrialisation and the increase in synthetic chemicals in farming. The movement marked a pivotal change in agricultural practices, with several vital influences driving the movement towards more natural and sustainable farming methods. Unlike natural products, organic produce must be cultivated and manufactured without synthetic pes- ticides, fertilisers, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Thus, organic farming promotes biodiver- sity, enhances soil fertility, and reduces pollution. It preserves the integrity of ecosystems and ensures that what we put on and in our bodies is free from harmful chemicals.
