The Bite Magazine - Autumn/Winter 2024 - Issue 36

bitecars R20 at the front and 345/30 R21 at the rear, are a bespoke devel- opment for the Tourbillon. The new ultra-compact and lightweight e-axle with dual inde- pendent motors, including the dual inverter, fits in the same package space as the Chiron, adding more complexity without requiring more space. As part of its clean sheet chassis and body shell design, the Tourbillon has further storage space and a more prominent luggage component to allow owners to fit a set of be- spoke Bugatti Tourbillon luggage. With advanced, electricity-actuated dihedral doors, the occu- pants can quickly enter the vehicle, providing a dramatic sense of arrival. The door can be opened and closed using the key fob or the door opening button underneath the Bugatti Line and on the centre console. Final Word Like previous Bugatti models, the Tourbillon is shaped by speed. Its ability to travel more than 400 km/h requires every surface, inlet, and ridge to be finely honed to ensure beneficial aerody- namic and thermodynamic components. The iconic horseshoe grille is inspired by the Bugatti Type 35, which tapers into the streamlined central fuselage and allows the left and right docked flying fenders to stream air underneath the headlights to boost air mass flow into the side intakes. It is further exemplified by the frontal design, which maintains the dimensions of a sculpted overhang and ingeniously houses an ultra-efficient cooling system to direct air through and out of the front bonnet. This augmented downforce packs a sizeable frunk between the two radiators. The Type 57SC emphasises the lowered frontal area, roofline, and driver seating to create a wider stance and proportion. The Bugatti Line takes its cue from the colour split lines of the Type 41 Royale, which evolved as a core design element in the Veyron and Chiron. With these new proportions and a lowered roofline, the line curves more sharply, leaning forward slightly as it winds around the roof to imbue the side profile with a leaping motion. Every surface, intake, and vent is carefully honed to bal- ance the aerodynamic forces of its speed and the requirements of the V16 engine, electric motors and battery thermodynamics. Bugatti Tourbillon emphasises the timeless elegance designed as a car for eternity that will be displayed on the contour lawns of this and the following centuries. www.bugatti.com/the-bugatti-models/tourbillon
