bitecars S ince 2004, the 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine has powered the Bugatti Veyron and Chiron, named af- ter legendary Bugatti racing drivers Pierre Veyron and Louis Chiron, and other subsequent vehicles. Iconic models like the renowned most beautiful car in the world, Type 57SC Atlantic, the most successful racing car, Type 35, and one of the most ambitious luxury cars of all time, Type 41 Royale, have provided the French marque’s three inspirational pillars of beauty, performance, and luxury. These attributes form the blueprint for the elegant, emotive, luxurious Bugatti Tourbillon. “The development of the Tour- billon was guided at every step by the 115 years of Bugatti history and the words of Ettore Bugatti himself,” said Mate Ri- mac, CEO of Bugatti Rimac. “His mantras ‘if comparable it is no longer Bugatti’ and ‘nothing is too beautiful’ was a guiding path for me personally, as well as the design and engineering teams looking to create the next exciting era in the Bugatti hyper sports car story.” Introduced through the collaborative partnership of Bugat- ti and Rimac, the Tourbillon is the first model not powered by the W16 engine since it is named after Swiss-born genius Abraham-Louis Breguet’s watchmaking invention. This com- plex and unique creation counteracts the effects of gravity on a timepiece to ensure more consistent timekeeping. Tourbil- lon was also chosen to encapsulate the Bugatti model’s char- acter and as a subtle reference to the marque’s French heritage and home in Molsheim. What Drives This Power Model? The new performance-honed Bugatti Tourbillon is powered by an all-new 8.3-litre naturally aspirated V16 engine and electrified powertrain. These powerhouses were engineered with the help of Cosworth Engineering, which pairs the front e-axle with two electric motors and one motor at the rear axle. It produces 1,800 hp consisting of 1,000 from the lightweight 252 kg combustion engine and 800 from the electric motors.
