Adapted from Mid-August Lunch , Thornton’s film finds humour and warmth in its characters’ dynamics while addressing themes of ageing, community, and intergeneration- al relationships. Mipo O’s Living in TwoWorlds offered a deeply empathetic por- trayal of life as a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA). The Japanese filmmaker, known for her sensitive portrayals of marginalised communities, tells the story of Dai, a young man navigating between his silent home life and the bustling soundscape of Tokyo. Through its heartfelt exploration of identity and be- longing, Living in Two Worlds sheds light on the complexities of communication and cultural differences. Memoir of a Snail , directed by Adam Elliot, brings animation to the forefront with its stop-motion tale of separated twins. Set in 1970s Australia, the film humorously and poignantly traces the lives of Grace and Gilbert as they navigate vastly different upbringings. Elliot, an Oscar-winning filmmaker, is known for his distinctive storytelling style that merges absurd- ity with deep emotional resonance.
