NEW SINGLE RELEASES Samantha Morgan checks out several recent and soon-to-be-released singles covering various genres of music. bitenewmusic Image credit: Rashidi Noah Rizzle Kicks - New Sport I conic British duo Rizzle Kicks’ Jordan Stephens and Harley Sulé announced Competition Is For Losers, their first album in over a decade, out in February 2025. Rizzle Kicks’ evolved original sound of ma- ture, jazzy R&B/pop won over many, initially amalgamating with Jordan’s trademark charismatic lyricism and Harley’s smooth vocals. Their latest sound on tracks like ‘Gumdrops’ of- fers a nuanced discussion about mas- culinity and lad culture. The track’s smooth bassline weaves between the duo’s vocals as they capture the bit- tersweet essence of adolescence. Their single ‘New Sport’, which fol- lows the comeback track ‘Javelin’ from earlier this year, has an irre- sistible beat and undeniable swagger. Jordan’s penmanship and Harley’s honeyed vocals, with mixes from Tucan, brim with funk and soul. The song’s music video captures the duo’s musically refined sound and the art representation of Andy Warhol and Basquiat. Art and culture are key to the new Rizzle Kicks world, mirror- ing themes from the album’s evolu- tion, growth, and maturity. Jordan and Harley return to music sober, in love, and equipped with life lessons, self-awareness, and self-de- velopment, which they’ve built in- dividually but retain their sense of humour that always sets them apart from other artists. “We allude to the fact that we acted off the cultural en- couragement and the reality of the time,” says Jordan. “I think now we’d like to believe that we’ve distanced ourselves from those through expe- rience.” Rizzle Kicks performed their first headline show in nearly a decade at London’s iconic KOKO in Camden in November to celebrate the an- nouncement. The highly sought-after show sold out in less than a minute, with fans eager to see the duo’s first performance back together. They will also perform sold-out shows at Man- chester’s O2 Ritz, Birmingham’s O2 Institute, and London’s O2 Forum Kentish Town across March 2025.
