bitecatwalk APUJAN A fter a hiatus, Apujan dramatically returned to the catwalk with a new and much-antic- ipated collection, ‘The Casebook of Kaiju’. The collection showcased 30 looks featuring the designer’s trademark expertly tailored and fitted pieces. It sprinkled avant-garde with humorous floral-covered headpieces and monster details. “Our theme includes a nod to monster stories,” Apu Jan said to Brian James and Leigh Maynard of Flanelle Magazine. “Before the monster appears, you’ll first see the footprints, the forest, the boat, and parts of the monster. There are also some investigative reports, some news, some researchers dispatched and even the military. It means that the entire society feels the existence of this character or event but does not know the meaning and future it brings.” I like this. Apu Jan is known for drawing his creative themes from stories and books, making the characters and monsters come alive through fashion. The careful consideration paid to the minute elements of each piece is fantastic. I love the quirky mixing of prints and patterns, the lovely use of fine knits and textures to great depth and a pleasant tactile experience with each item. The idea of living in a monster’s ‘look’ is awesome, but with each look that passed, the news, a script, and printed pieces were my favourite, a nod to wearing the written word. I also like the dino/dragon gunmetal grey headpiece in the second-to-last look because, seriously, who wouldn’t want to rock that while walking down Madison Avenue? https://www.apujan.com FASHION WEEK LONDON Spring/Summer 2024
